On a dark and stormy night, everyone in the mansion slept, except Mr. Bates. He entered his niece’s dark room holding a knife.
A tap at the window awoke his niece, and a handsome young man entered, dripping wet. “Has your uncle tried to kill you yet?”
The lovers kissed, and simultaneously a shadow stabbed the man in the back.
As the body hit the floor, the young woman cried, “Uncle, why?”
Mr. Bates pointed to the knife clutched in the dead man’s hand. “He did not know I was in the room.”
His niece understood, and fainted.
